Advancing the construction of a quality culture, Xiangtan Institute of Technology organized a special seminar on quality management.

In order to strengthen the construction of the university's quality culture and establish a quality assurance system for education and teaching, on the afternoon of May 23rd, Xiangtan Institute of Technology held a special seminar for faculty and staff to collectively study relevant knowledge on quality management and ISO9000.

The seminar was lectured by the university president, Yuan Libin. He covered four aspects: what quality is, the developmental stages of quality management, the seven principles of ISO quality management, and university quality management. He provided a vivid lesson for all participants.

 

He pointed out that strengthening the construction of a quality culture is an important foundation for universities to promote high-quality development and build high-level applied universities. Understanding the term "quality" is crucial, with a focus on two dimensions: holding the bottom line and satisfying customers. Quality management is a necessary requirement for social and economic development. The global development of quality management has gone through stages such as inspecting quality, statistical quality, reliability (design) quality, and the development process of TQC, QA, and TQM. ISO9000:2015 explicitly outlines seven principles of quality management, providing important guidance for establishing quality management concepts and carrying out quality management work.

He emphasized that a university is a special service organization, both a provider of educational services and a manager of students. The process product of a university is educational services, and the ultimate product is outstanding talents. Therefore, the customers of a university include not only students and parents but also employers. The key to university quality management lies in courses, majors, faculty, and practice, with the core being to improve the quality of talent cultivation. The ultimate goal is to satisfy students and parents and meet the satisfaction of employers.

 

He demanded that strengthening university quality management requires not only leadership but also the participation of all staff. Faculty and staff should establish three awareness: customer awareness, quality awareness, and improvement awareness. The university's academic disciplines must be closely aligned with society and industry, and joint efforts with enterprises should formulate talent quality standards. Teaching teams in various disciplines should delve into enterprises, focus on the forefront, and correctly handle the relationship between academic systems and industrial systems in the process of formulating talent training programs. The university should start by establishing a learning organization and a QC team for quality management, building a well-defined quality management system, and achieving precision, standardization, informatization, and transparency in quality management.

 

This faculty and staff seminar is the second special study mobilization meeting held in the current academic year, following the "Marketing Management" seminar. Its purpose is to consolidate the foundation of marketing concepts, comprehensively promote the construction of the university's quality culture, and establish a sound quality assurance system, laying a solid foundation for building a high-level applied university.
