Introduction to Xiangtan Institute of Technology

Xiangtan Institute of Technology (hereinafter referred to as XIT)  is located at the central node of the Xiangjiang Science City and the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan West Bank Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, situated in the Jiuhua Economic & Development Zone of Xiangtan City, Hunan Province.It is the first independent undergraduate institution in Hunan Province approved by the Ministry of Education to complete the transformation from a branch college to an independent college. It is also a collaborative training unit with the Geely Postdoctoral Research Workstation under the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

The predecessor of XIT was the Beijin College of Hunan University of Technology and Business, established in 2001. Initially, the college was situated in the historical city of Beijin, along the beautiful Xiangjiang River. In 2018, with the care and support of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and Government, Hunan University of Technology and Business and Geely Group cooperated to establish Beijin College of Hunan University of Technology and Business. In 2019, the Xiangtan campus of Beijin College was completed and officially opened in September, welcoming its first batch of students. In June 2020, approved by the Ministry of Education, Beijin College of Hunan University of Technology and Business was transformed into an independent undergraduate institution and renamed Xiangtan Institute of Technology. It operates as a private non-profit general higher education institution.

XIT covers an area of 1,300 acres, with its library housing a collection of more than one million volumes. It currently offers seven disciplines: science, engineering, economics, management, law, literature, and art. It comprises six secondary-grade schools: the School of Automotive and Energy, the School of Intelligent Engineering, the School of Computing, the School of Digital Law and Business, the School of Digital Intelligence Management,the School of Literature and Creative Artsthe and two schools of Public Courses Education:School of Marxism, and the School of Education.It provides 40 undergraduate majors and has nearly 16,000 students from 17 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) across the country.

XIT attaches great importance to the comprehensive quality education of students and vigorously cultivates CFAP innovative talents by fully implementing project-based educational and teaching reforms. In the context of project-based educational and teaching reform, a large number of students have unleashed their personal potential by solving real-world problems with real efforts.In the fall of 2021, XIT established Tam Chau College for freshmen, delicating to the study, research, and disseminate Huxiang (Hunan) culture. It explores a college-system mode of student management, strengthens general education, and uses outstanding traditional culture to cultivate outstanding talents capable of taking on responsibilities in the new era. (CFAP stands for "Character; Fundamental abilities; Action; Professional skills," representing four dimensions: character development, fundamental abilities, action efficiency, and professional skills. This acronym was first introduced by the President of XIT, Dr. Yuan Libin, in July 2021.)

XIT places great emphasis on the integration of industry and education, which constitutes a distinctive feature and strength of Xiangtan Institute of Technology. Leveraging the global presence of Geely Holding Group and its affiliated powerful enterprises, XIT actively cultivates innovative talents for industrial development. Currently, XIT has established close cooperation with over 20 manufacturing bases and research institutes under Geely Holding Group, ensuring the sustained deepening and solidification of the industry-education integration for talent development. Adhering to the principles of addressing societal demands and aligning with corporate recruitment standards, graduates of XIT have gained broad recognition and popularity among employers.

XIT has achieved fruitful results in education, teaching, and scientific research, as well as student academic advancement and graduate employment. The “Labor Education” project declared by the school as the first completing unit won the Higher Education Excellent Teaching Achievement Prize of Hunan Province. A large number of students have won national awards in various competitions such as the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling and the National Advertising Art Design Competition for College Students. Many students‌ have been admitted as graduate students by prestigious universities such as the University of Hong Kong, Hunan University, and Zhengzhou University. A group of students have achieved high-quality employment by passing civil service exams, securing positions in military civil service, obtaining a career civil service position, or joining major enterprises; others have fulfilled their life aspirations and bravely shouldered social responsibilities by starting their own businesses.

The normalization of international exchanges in the school has been established. A cooperation agreement has been signed with Hochschule Furtwangen University in Germany, facilitating in-depth collaboration in teaching, research, and other areas, with students selected annually to undertake study and exchange programs in Germany. The school has also signed up to join the China-ASEAN  Forum of  Private Higher Education Development and Cooperation, actively embracing open and innovative international cooperation. Every year, teachers and students are organized to visit and study at universities both within China and overseas, such as The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and University of Macau.

Standing at the starting point of a new era, XIT is committed to prioritizing moral education and serving the real economy and the “Three Hubs and Four New Missions” Strategy. XIT distinctively focuses on the integration of industry and education, comprehensively aligning itself with strategic emerging industries. By centering on "new engineering" and "new business", and closely monitoring industry and technological frontiers, it strives to build a new type of international applied university with outstanding quality prominent research capabilities, and excellent academic reputation. It aims to contribute its due share to advancing the great cause of building a great country and achieving the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through the comprehensive promotion of Chinese (path to) modernization.
