Xiangtan Institute of Technology Holds the First Quality Conference

From July 5th to 7th, in order to highlight the quality culture of applied universities and promote the high-quality development of various undertakings in the school, Xiangtan Institute of Technology held its first Quality Conference. All faculty and staff attended the conference, engaging in concentrated learning and in-depth discussions on quality management, quality culture, and the construction of a quality assurance system.
On the morning of the 5th, Professor Yuan Libin, the president of Xiangtan Institute of Technology, delivered a splendid report titled "Quality Culture, Assurance System, and High-level Applied Universities." He led everyone in reviewing the main content of the quality management special study meeting for faculty and staff held on May 23. The main topics included "What is quality," "Development stages of quality management," "Principles of quality management," and "University quality management." President Yuan provided a thorough and vivid explanation of university quality management from the three aspects of "student-centered," "demand-oriented," and "continuous improvement."
President Yuan pointed out that with the rapid popularization of higher education nationwide, the quality of education and teaching in universities has become the focus of social attention. It is necessary to deeply understand the new concepts and methods of quality management, grasp the core connotations of quality culture, master the basic principles and methods of quality management, and build a quality culture and assurance system adapted to applied universities.
President Yuan emphasized that higher education belongs to the service industry, and students are the service objects of universities. It is essential to firmly establish the concept of "student-centered" education, study the characteristics of students, pay attention to their needs, and continuously improve the quality of talent cultivation. The school should align its educational goals with social needs, conduct in-depth research on societal expectations for universities, and respond promptly to societal concerns about university education. A comprehensive quality assurance system should be constructed, with all departments and processes firmly establishing a quality consciousness, prioritizing quality in all aspects, and achieving "standards in everything" and "everyone talking about quality." This will promote the high-quality development of educational management in the school.
During the group discussion session, each department engaged in in-depth exchanges on issues such as quality culture, quality consciousness, professional development, and the quality of talent cultivation, quality assurance systems, and quality management tools.
On the afternoon of the 7th, a summary meeting was held in the library lecture hall, presided over by Zhao Chan, the secretary of the school's party committee. During the meeting, ten teacher representatives, including Guo Baoqin from the Academic Affairs Office, Liu Qiusheng from the School of Digital Technology, Yu Yangyang from Tanzhou Academy, Kong Jing from the School of Business, Zhong Man from the Student Affairs Office, Wu Li from the School of Automotive Engineering, Han Xuefei from the School of Marxism, Wang Ruiyang from the School of Foreign Languages, Chen Yafang from the School of Humanities and Arts, and Liu Fan from the Sports Department, shared their insights and work ideas based on their discussions during the three-day Quality Conference.
President Yuan listened to everyone's speeches throughout and put forward four requirements for the school's next steps in quality construction. First, it is necessary to raise political awareness, connect the school's quality construction with Xi Jinping's "Three Questions" about higher education, combine it with the concept of moral education and talent cultivation, and integrate it with the high-quality development of the school. Second, each department should thoroughly implement the "student-centered" educational philosophy, present concrete measures, improve relevant systems, support students in conducting independent learning and exploration, deepen educational reforms, focus on cultivating students' ability to identify and solve problems, and develop students' innovative and critical thinking. Third, it is essential to seriously implement the "demand-oriented" educational approach. Faculty and staff should fully engage with enterprises, improve the CFAP talent cultivation model, formulate a batch of projects, especially practical projects, and cultivate students' ability to adapt to society. Fourth, streamline work processes, strengthen work standards, build and apply a quality assurance system compatible with applied universities, comprehensively promote QC project teams, achieve continuous improvement through specific projects, and effectively strengthen the school's quality construction.
This Quality Conference serves as both a mobilization meeting for promoting high-quality development in the school and a forum for unified ideological exchange. Through three days of concentrated learning and discussion, participants have enhanced their awareness of quality and deepened their understanding of applied universities and quality culture. It is expected that the conference will play a positive role in promoting the school's educational reforms.
