Professor Liu Chao from Hunan University shares his academic research experience

What is how to conduct research in a standardized manner? What is innovative research and how to innovate? What is a first-class scholar and how can we create first-class? On the afternoon of December 1st, at the invitation of Xiangtan University of Technology, Professor Liu Chao, PhD supervisor and Vice Dean of the School of Business Administration at Hunan University, presented the topic of "Normative Academic Research on Economic Management Issues". Starting from three different research levels, he gradually inspired young teachers on how to carry out academic research on economic management.



Professor Liu quotes Aristotle's Metaphysics as "abstracting from concrete experience to general principles" and proposes that academic research should elevate experience into knowledge. If light has experience but no logic, it is knowing its nature and not knowing its reason. From "form and technique" to "learning", Professor Liu emphasized that "learning" is the highest level of academic research. How to achieve "learning" was discussed by Professor Liu from the perspectives of topic, reason, method, evidence, and order in speech.


He said that innovation is of utmost importance in conducting research on economic management. When conducting academic research, new problems, new methods, and new conclusions should have at least one of them. Professor Liu not only provides suggestions on knowledge accumulation, cutting-edge literature, and work practice on innovative sources, but also encourages young scholars to have a comprehensive understanding of international development trends, know which problems have been solved, which problems have not been solved, where the difficulties are, and what the difficulties are, and maintain a sustained spirit of innovation in academic research. 


Professor Liu combined his academic journey and talked to everyone about how to create first-class in the field of economic management. The first stage is literacy, which involves reading authoritative journals and reports, grasping cutting-edge directions and issues. The second stage is imitation, which involves creating by imitating the research topics or methods of top scholars in the field. The third stage is innovation, which involves innovating relevant theories and methods based on imitation creation. The fourth stage is social service, and all research ultimately focuses on serving society. The research topic should not only have theoretical significance, but also practical significance.



In the lecture, Professor Liu also gave examples to demonstrate the specific framework of empirical research related to economic management, and provided detailed explanations on the issues that need to be emphasized in paper writing. After listening to the entire lecture, the teachers and students expressed that they had benefited a lot and gained a clearer understanding of academic research.
